MANDARAMKADAVU

Mandaram Kadavu is one of the important historical and ritual centres of Arattupuzha. Situated along the Karuvannur–Arattupuzha road, the kadavu (riverbank/ghat) has an inseparable connection with the renowned Arattupuzha Pooram.

Arattupuzha Pooram, regarded as one of the oldest temple festivals in Kerala, is particularly famous for its traditional concept of the congregation of deities from various temples. One of the most significant rituals associated with the festival is the ceremonial bathing, or aarattu, of the deities at Mandaram Kadavu.

According to local belief, the presence of Goddess Ganga is believed to manifest at Mandaram Kadavu from midnight on the day of the Pooram. This belief gives the ritual bathing at the kadavu great spiritual and religious significance.

Another remarkable feature of Mandaram Kadavu is the large number of devotees who take a ritual bath in the river along with the ceremonial aarattu of the deities. The confluence of temple traditions, faith, nature, and community participation makes Mandaram Kadavu an important part of the cultural heritage of Arattupuzha.
